Instructions

[edit]

Please add your request for custodianship (or other staff positions) below. Include a short summary of why you think you should be given the privileges and please refer to your involvement in other Wikimedia projects. If you have sysop/bureaucrat status at a sister project, please indicate so as well.

In a wiki, trust arises from good editing of pages and "good editing" is what advances the project. If you have a record of good editing then you are likely to be trusted and be granted the tools to protect pages from vandalism and block vandals and delete useless pages. Having those tools really just means you have to do more work -dull and boring work- for the community.

If you want to do administration work for your language version, please request Test wiki custodians. For translaton adminship, make the subpage format the same. And specify that you are requesting a translation admin.

All candidates should please place their requests or nominations on a subpage and transclude it here.

Requests for Custodianship

[edit]

Hi, I'm applying for another 3 months of temporary custodianship. Last time I made some progress on the cleanup, as evidenced by admin stats. I mostly focused on deleting unused templates and empty pages. I also cooperated with en.wikiversity to export several hundred pages written in English. However, there's still work to be done. @Crochet.david, Sotiale: AtUkr (talk) 19:42, 28 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I will allow 7 days for comments so that all other contributors can express their views. However, I will grant a right lasting 6 months. Indeed, 3 months can be very quiet in terms of the work to be done. Crochet.david (talk) 08:55, 29 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Fine by me, thank you. AtUkr (talk) 13:34, 29 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Crochet.david A week has passed, waiting for your final decision now. AtUkr (talk) 19:15, 4 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Crochet.david @Sotiale hello? AtUkr (talk) 16:24, 7 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Crochet.david thank you, but it seems there was a mistake. I requested sitewide custodianship, not test wiki custodianship. AtUkr (talk) 17:33, 8 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I would like to request permanent custodianship on Beta Wikiversity. I have previously served as a custodian and actively supported maintenance. Many existing custodians, such as User:Encore007, have been inactive for years, and others have very few actions and are mostly inactive for months, creating gaps in regular upkeep. I am ready to help consistently and take on the necessary responsibilities.--(talk) 10:49, 22 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Pinging @Crochet.david, Sotiale:--(talk) 22:57, 8 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
For my part, you have only been here too recently for me to make an informed judgement about your work. However, initial indications suggest a good start. I would wait a little longer before making a final decision. The option of temporary status during a probationary period of three to six months seems to me to be the better option. Crochet.david (talk) 19:58, 11 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Crochet.david Fair enough. Since I’ve already served three months, I don’t mind a six-month probationary period. I’d just prefer to reduce the number of applications from my side.--(talk) 14:39, 12 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I don't have enough confidence in you to trust you as a permanent custodian here. You've also occasionally stopped contributing here for a period of time, and I think your claims alone are insufficient. This isn't about your contributions, but about your activities. However, I still do not oppose your custodian activities here as a temporary custodian. --Sotiale (talk) 08:06, 11 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your feedback. I hope you will assess the situation from a neutral point of view, and I also hope nothing from our previous conversations has caused any misunderstanding. This platform’s norm is to make someone a permanent custodian after serving as a temporary custodian, and I feel it is a bit unfair when this standard is not applied consistently. Regarding my activity as a sysop:
  • I am a sysop/administrator on a sister project, Wikimedia Incubator, where I currently rank 5th among the active administrators.
  • I am also a sysop/administrator on Multilingual Wikisource, where I rank 4th among the active administrators.
Here, I previously served as a temporary custodian for 3 months, after which another active user, AtUkr, served their 3-month term. While there was an active custodian, I respectfully stepped back and allowed them to work without disruption. I am applying now because there is currently no very active custodian, and I would like to help maintain the project effectively. Thank you for considering my request.--(talk) 12:26, 11 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not entirely sure why a permanent custodianship is necessary; do you have long-term plans for managing the project in general rather than the Sylheti testwiki in particular? If so, please share them. Beta Wikiversity isn't as big or active as to warrant heavy oversight. It does need a thorough cleanup - I wasn't able to perform a proper one due to IRL business, but I do think that a less busy person could manage it in months as a temporary custodian. I would happily Support Support a 6 month custodianship. AtUkr (talk) 22:44, 14 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
