About me

Hi there! My name is Joe, and I'm a Community Advocate at the Wikimedia Foundation. I have been an editor on the English Wikipedia (and dabbled in various other Wikimedia projects) since 2006. In real life, I graduated with a BA(Hons.) in Journalism in July 2015, and am currently based in San Francisco, California.

I wrote a dissertation on how Wikipedia reacts to breaking news as part of my degree.

My work

I'm a Community Advocate on the Support and Safety team. Our team helps to empower volunteers within the Wikimedia movement by providing a bridge to the Foundation's work, as well as helping the Foundation work more effectively with communities. I also help to undertake and to present readership research.

(Despite my title, I am not a lawyer.)

Disclaimer: I work for or provide services to the Wikimedia Foundation, and this is the account I try to use for edits or statements I make in that role. However, the Foundation does not vet all my activity, so edits, statements, or other contributions made by this account may not reflect the views of the Foundation.
