User:Hillgentleman/on wiki publishing

From Wikiversity

Since

1. In principle, the results of every study must ultimately be communicated to the public (or be applied, which is about the same);

2. Established journals serve the above purpose because the public believe their credibility;

The question arises, that in which role does wiki-publishing serve in the research process?

Two answers come to mind:

  1. Wiki-publications should become part of the established community, by
    1. recruiting well-known academic faculties;
    2. serving first as a pre-print archive for the established journals;
  2. Wiki-publications should stay in the fringe, and remain as a trouve of serious but controversial materials, waiting to be reaccessed in newer lights, and either communicated to the public or refuted by more accurate data, information or knowledge.

http://academia.wikia.org is a wiki-publisher. Which role it is going to play is unclear to me. Can anybody tell me?
