Wikiversity:Candidates for Custodianship

From Wikiversity

Instructions

[edit]

Please add your request for custodianship (or other staff positions) below. Include a short summary of why you think you should be given the privileges and please refer to your involvement in other Wikimedia projects. If you have sysop/bureaucrat status at a sister project, please indicate so as well.

In a wiki, trust arises from good editing of pages and "good editing" is what advances the project. If you have a record of good editing then you are likely to be trusted and be granted the tools to protect pages from vandalism and block vandals and delete useless pages. Having those tools really just means you have to do more work -dull and boring work- for the community.

If you want to do administration work for your language version, please request Test wiki custodians. For translaton adminship, make the subpage format the same. And specify that you are requesting a translation admin.

All candidates should please place their requests or nominations on a subpage and transclude it here.

Requests for Custodianship

[edit]

Hi. I'm once again requesting a temporary custodianship to continue the cleanup. This was done by me for the Ukrainian test project during my last term as a test wiki custodian. There's still much work to be done; some of it I bring to the requests page for the custodians to handle. Seeing as the only active custodian ꠢꠣꠍꠘ ꠞꠣꠎꠣ no longer has the rights (although they have my support if they decide to re-apply), and I'm now able to dedicate more time to the matter, I decided to take up the mantle myself.

Note: due to some misunderstanding, the last time I requested the flag I was only given test wiki rights. This is not what I'm asking for, I'm requesting a general custodianship for the entire website.

How long would you like the period to be? --Sotiale (talk) 01:57, 4 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Sotiale: 3 months should be enough, thank you. AtUkr (talk) 19:41, 4 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, just for clarification: I’m a bit confused and would like to better understand the scope here.
The platform norms mention that temporary custodianship is usually granted for maintaining content in a specific language. If the candidate does good work, they can later request permanent custodianship from the community.
However, this request appears to be for general custodianship across the entire website, not just for a single test project or language. Has there been a change in policy allowing 'temporary custodianship' for general maintenance across all of Betawikiversity, or am I perhaps missing a discussion or precedent? -- (talk) 15:26, 4 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@ꠢꠣꠍꠘ ꠞꠣꠎꠣ: I did some digging and, apparently, the line about "temporary custodianship" appeared on that page all the way back in 2008 when neither test wiki custodians nor user group expiry were things. Now it's the test wiki group which is meant for maintaining a specific language project, regulated by a whole another policy. So clearly, Wikiversity:Custodians is just a tad outdated. And of course, there is a precedent - namely you were granted a temporary 3-month custodianship for the entire website (which has just expired). Also me requesting the rights for 3 months is in line with the requirements listed on Meta, just in case the bureaucrats remain unresponsive and a steward action is necessary. I think that should settle it. AtUkr (talk) 19:41, 4 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@AtUkr: Hi. It's been 7 days already, so that's enough. As you know, it is best to leave the contents of the project, including VI or etc, untouched unless it is obvious. I think this recommendation is not relevant to you, since the scope of the tools you are going to utilize is probably related to the general maintenance of this site, not the contents. If you are well aware of this (and I believe you are), I will do as you wish. --Sotiale (talk) 12:47, 10 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Sotiale I don't have a problem with that. AtUkr (talk) 15:09, 10 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Sotiale, thanks for granting the flag. Not to seem greedy, but while we're at it, could I have interface admin too? I just realized that custodians can't edit CSS/JS, and I'd like to fix the language selection gadget. AtUkr (talk) 18:31, 17 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
If you didn't mention it in this request, you should open a separate request asking for IA in principle. I would like to attach the flag right away, but I think you know that the general process doesn't flow that way. Please open a new request. --Sotiale (talk) 13:34, 24 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I was hoping this could be avoided, but alright. I submitted the request. AtUkr (talk) 22:11, 24 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Requests for Interface adminship

[edit]

Hi, this is a request for the interface admin flag on top of my custodianship. The gadgets could use an update and custodians can't do that. I'm asking for a temporary 3-month flag. Cheers. AtUkr (talk) 22:06, 24 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Your IA will be attached to match the duration of your custodian flag, as it is safe and common. However, this shouldn't be a problem, as you can request additional time. --Sotiale (talk) 02:11, 2 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
