From Wikiversity

Hello. What is the vandalisme about my bot ? (it change [[Image: by [[File:, the real name of the namespace, and it sort interwiki wich exist for the moment.) Crochet.david (talk) 04:59, 29 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That's right, but your bot sorts the interwiki-links not correct. Greetings, Vogone (talk) 11:43, 29 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but the interwiki was sort only for existing Wikiversities. So the bots sort only 10 interwiki. The another is, for the bots, unknown. Crochet.david (talk) 16:35, 29 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, my fault! I've copied the interwikis from German Wikipedia not from Wikiversity. I'm so sorry about that. Greetings, Vogone (talk) 16:48, 29 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Import error?[edit]

Hello, Vogone. I do import de.wikiversity pages, and move to your user subpage. But I cannot import LT wikipedia document. Please check that you can import LT wikipedia articles(As you know, You have transwiki importer right). Regards, Sotiale (Talk·Contribs) 12:38, 4 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, you are right. The import source isn't correct. I've made a request on bugzilla (bugzilla:40163). Thank you for helping import pages, --Vogone (talk) 16:02, 11 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your temporary access has expired[edit]

Hello, the temporary access you requested on this wiki has expired. Just to let you know that If you want it back, feel free to make a local announcement and open a new request on stewards' permission request page on Meta-Wiki later. Moreover, if you think the community is big enough to elect a permanent administrator, you can place a local request here for a permanent adminship, so stewards can grant you the permanent access. Please ask me or any other steward if you have any questions. Thank you! Trijnstel (talk) 10:20, 1 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ar jau galima pradėti kurti straipsnius?[edit]

Labas visi! Esu čekas vikipedistas. Jau seniai man trūko lietuviško vikiverziteto. Norėčiau pridėti nemažai medžiagos, tiktai nežinau, ar jau pradėtų viskas veikti... Ir aplamai, ar jau galima pradėti kurti straipsnius, projektus ir kai bus viskas organizuota... --Kusurija (talk) 13:47, 11 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Lithuanian wv[edit]

Hi,

I help user:Kusurija to create LT wv. Unfortunately none of us speak German and you make translation from German, so it makes it for us difficult.--Juandev (talk) 22:41, 14 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry to say that I don't have any time for helping on ltwv due to me having a lot of work to do in real life currently. I am very glad to hear that you two are willing to care of the project and since ltwv is also a rather new test project you can feel free to build it according to your own wishes. The German templates I imported are also rather a recommendation regarding how it could look like from my side, but if you find better solutions in languages you understand or have even better own ideas feel free to implement them as well! I hope I can join your efforts to build a Lithuanian language Wikiversity in the near future. Good luck and see you around, Vogone (talk) 00:55, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Vogone, thank You very much for understanding! Labas, Vogone, labai ačiū už supratimą! --Kusurija (talk) 08:03, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Pages in your ns[edit]

Hi,

what is the state of the pages in your ns?--Juandev (talk) 11:55, 20 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Most "Pagalba" (Help) and "Šablonas" (Template) pages only require minor changes before they are ready for usage here. Will need to take a closer look to it soon, though. Regarding the German Wikiversity ns pages, these are the most important ones but obviously not yet translated. A few of them may get deleted because we develop a better own version. Vogone (talk) 01:22, 21 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Commons categories[edit]

Well, if Babel is a magic word, I wonder when Commons become more accesible. Many Czechs are sighing for the difficulty with the system if the categories are in English there.--Juandev (talk) 14:04, 20 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Knowledge is power[edit]

Hi Vogone, It's very nice to see you here. I believe knowledge is power and I do love/enjoy sharing information with you all via Wikiversity. Let's build up the hub more wonderful! Also welcome you to visit our K-12 page! (The preceding unsigned comment was added by Yunchen87 (talkcontribs) 05:52, 22 April 2014 (UTC).)[reply]

Thanks for the invitation. Vogone (talk) 21:18, 24 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Adminship[edit]

Congrats Vogone! I know this new tool would be another useful way for you too handle maintenance around here :) - Sorry if I didn't get to vote in your request, never told me about it. --Goldenburg111 (talk) 20:55, 24 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. Vogone (talk) 21:18, 24 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Can't you make a decision either way? Either mark it as done or not done, because it looks bad when no administrator responds to these requests for attention. TeleComNasSprVen (talk) 01:02, 28 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright violation[edit]

Hello Vogone, I have re-written page Angst so there's no more copyright violation. Cheers, Tim, Timboliu (talk) 19:34, 24 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Is it possible to wait a few days before you delete a page?[edit]

Hello Vogone,

Is it possible to wait a few days before you delete a page? Maybe I can re-write the article so no knowledge is lost. Thanks,

Tim, Timboliu (talk) 19:38, 24 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Fine, I will wait a few days in case of empty pages then. Vogone (talk) 19:40, 24 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much. You can delete empty pages. Regarding pages that are nominated for speedy deletion because of copyright violations I would appreciate it if you could wait a few days, so I can rewrite them. Is it possible for me to rewrite Arbeidscontracten? Timboliu (talk) 19:48, 24 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Copyright violations are to be deleted immediately and as they are 1:1 copies of the source you may also refer to the source itself in order to do a rewrite. Kind regards, Vogone (talk) 19:51, 24 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
My opinion on this, based on en.wikiversity practice, is that what could be called plagiarism is not an emergency, particularly if the source is credited. Substantial copied content could be a more serious problem. In no case is the WMF in danger from copyright violation claims, it is protected if it responds to DCMA take-down notices, and it does, promptly and without fuss. However, the long-term goal of freely re-usable content is damaged. So, on en.wv, we will give a user time. We might use a proposed deletion template, to ensure that the situation is eventually handled. We also may tag a page with a "fair use claim," under the en.wv Exemption Doctrine Policy. There has been some discussion of establishing an EDP here. I'd advise it, it can provide some flexibility. EDP requires that all non-free content be machine-readably tagged, so that a re-user is on notice that something might be problematic about the page. It's something I've intended to work on. Life so short, so much that can be done. So, again, because drafting a document is an educational purpose, allowing short-term hosting of such content here could satisfy an EDP, possibly. I've only seen the EDP used for images, though.
We might say that the user may save content on their own computer, but not all users have their own computer.... they may be using library access, internet cafe, etc. --Abd (talk) 23:47, 24 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks.[edit]

[1]. Sanity. That's what I thought! --Abd (talk) 19:09, 22 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

[2] and again, it's very nice to know that Big Brother is watching, gives me a deep sense of security. B.B.! B.B.! B.B! That dystopian vision is actually the flip side of genuine community care and, yes, governance. How to realize that without turning life into the dystopian nightmare is a long-term project of mine.
I've been over this link problem and I just can't seem to remember the right way to do it. I think it's that w: is a widespread wikilink, even off of WMF wikis, to Wikipedia, plus I think wikipedia:en works where w:en does not. There are a lot of busted links here, particularly in the user contribution display, old toolserver links missing. I'm not up on the actual Mediawiki files to edit (which should be enough), I could find out and experiment on my own wiki. Would you like that assistance? (I do have active tools listed at User:Abd/Reports.)

A warning you issued[edit]

[3] seems obscure to me. As far as I can tell, the user stopped any on-wiki problematic activity. Although you can certainly warn him, but you didn't warn another user whose problematic activity continued and did go cross-wiki, explicitly. If you need an explanation, I'll provide it, but my point here is that the user would not necessarily know what you are talking about, so the warning could be ineffective. I know that when I receive a vague warning, like "Stop your disruption!" without a specification or example or something, I really don't have anything to act on. So do I stop everything, or what?

If you think it will help for me to be formally warned also, that's fine. Just, please, be specific if you can. Thanks for whatever you do to stop useless argument and to help users here to feel safe. A custodian is a little bit different, the classic advice for administrators is to have a thick skin, because administrators will be criticized and must be willing to carefully consider it.

Um, I see this. That isn't harassment. It may be a bad sign for a Beta sysop, but that is a totally different matter. He has the right to his opinion. Maybe there is something else going on, say on IRC, which wouldn't be surprising given the history. --Abd (talk) 22:42, 25 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I think the user does know what I mean. I issued that warning directly after an unpleasant IRC conversation with him (thus off-wiki) in which he accused all custodians of this wiki to be the reason for this dispute, with a lot of gleefulness. These kind of accusations against me and other custodians are going on for a few days already (not the first incident), so I decided to leave the IRC channel and to issue this warning instead of replying further. Regards, Vogone (talk) 22:56, 25 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. I suspected maybe so. We can see the same accusations on meta from another user, from Romaine on RCA, as well as what I cited below, running into edit conflict with you:
  • This comment on EvilFreD talk looks encouraging. Romaine seems to have been following his own advice. this comment on the Forum, however, is not so encouraging. Still, it's not harassment, it's merely bad policy. That can be handled carefully, later. If he follows the principle and doesn't disrupt Beta in general, the longer-term issues can be handled civilly and with collaboration. I hope! --Abd (talk) 23:09, 25 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm still on plan to avoid anything unnecessary outside my user page, for the time being. I certainly hope this comment is not seen as a problem, it accuses nobody of anything but possible error with regard to policy, and this is a wiki. We get to make mistakes or what people think are mistakes. Fastest way to learn, in fact.
I did move a page back into "Dutch" territory, based on the RCA request. It is much simpler to just do something like that, than to argue about it. I created a copy in my own user space, which is offered to the Dutch user to move, if he wants. I could say more, but won't!!! --Abd (talk) 23:09, 25 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

deleted page[edit]

hi you just deleted a page that we were working on. It's a paper for a course and we spend last two days writing it.

What is happening? https://beta.wikiversity.org/wiki/Ethics_and_Law_in_New_Media/Marketing_Advantages_and_Copyright_Issues_in_Distribution_of_Music_in_YouTube

I've restored the pages so that you can copy their content. But please note the content does not belong to beta.wikiversity. Regards, Vogone (talk) 23:03, 7 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, but I don't understand. We are working now at the reference part. Why should we copy the content? We were asked to create this wiki page as an assignment for the course Ethics and Law in New Media.

Testing Main Page/Sisterprojects[edit]

Hi Vogone!

I have put a sisterprojects display in Lithuanian in my User:Marshallsumter/Sandbox as a way to perhaps stimulate some crosswiki activity! It has the latest addresses I can find and could go on the Lithuanian Main Page if there's interest. What do you think? --Marshallsumter (talk) 01:14, 14 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I will certainly take a look tomorrow! --Vogone (talk) 02:50, 14 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

About User 朱倬民[edit]

Hello, I am Beta and Zh Wikiversity sysop.
Regarding this user should be using Chinese, please let me communicate with him. Since I am currently active in the Chinese independent version, I will also back check sometime. If there is any exception, please talk to me.--安可 (talk) 05:42, 4 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

How we will see unregistered users[edit]

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Your advanced permissions on betawikiversity[edit]

Hello. A policy regarding the removal of "advanced rights" (administrator, bureaucrat, interface administrator, etc.) was adopted by community consensus in 2013. According to this policy, the stewards are reviewing activity on wikis with no inactivity policy.

You meet the inactivity criteria (no edits and no logged actions for 2 years) on this wiki. Since this wiki, to the best of our knowledge, does not have its own rights review process, the global one applies.

If you want to keep your advanced permissions, you should inform the community of the wiki about the fact that the stewards have sent you this information about your inactivity. A community notice about this process has been also posted on the local Village Pump of this wiki. If the community has a discussion about it and then wants you to keep your rights, please contact the stewards at the m:Stewards' noticeboard, and link to the discussion of the local community, where they express their wish to continue to maintain the rights.

If you wish to resign your rights, please request removal of your rights on Meta.

If there is no response at all after one month, stewards will proceed to remove your administrator and/or bureaucrat rights. In ambiguous cases, stewards will evaluate the responses and will refer a decision back to the local community for their comment and review. If you have any questions, please contact the stewards.

Yours faithfully.
