about some pages

Sorry, now I don't understand. These pages are from my three courses and all of them are linked from their respective course pages (Ethics and Law in New Media, Haridustehnoloogia ja erivajadustega inimesed, Sotsiaalne tarkvara ja võrgukogukonnad - see the main page for Estonian courses at http://beta.wikiversity.org/wiki/Wiki%C3%BClikooli_koolituspakkumised , three last ones). The pages also contain the back links to the main course page.
The only exception is the second one from the bottom (erivajadused läbi aegade), which somehow seems to be an orphaned version of an existing page. If possible, please delete it.

Looking for research partnership

Right now, my first Wikiversity courses (mixing the University and Wikiversity as noted by Kaj above) seem to be running quite well - actual participant numbers have significantly exceeded the planned ones. I am considering writing a research paper about my experiences. Maybe someone with his/her own ideas is interested to team up - an option could be to do some kind of comparative analysis. copyleft licences for your image files

Hello! Thank you for your contributions in creating educational resources in Wikiversity. As we care a lot about copyrights, we can only accept images or media files licenced under GFDL or CC-BY-SA (or the unconditional "Public Domain"). (see, e.g. [1]). Please add in appropriate declarations to the files, e.g. edit the description page saying "I, the author, hereby publish the file under GFDL / CC-BY-SA" should be enough. Some questions

Thanks for all your work on Estonian resources.

I saw your removal of many items from the participant list for a resource of yours.[2] I'd appreciate it if you would explain massive changes like that.

I think I see what happened. When you established the page, you did not use your signature, but gave your web site. And you have now reverted to the same, which will continue to encourage others, seeing the page, to add their own names and web sites, instead of the normal participant sign-up with a Wikiversity user name. This is wasting the time of a lot of people. If you would like me to fix this for you, I will, though my Estonian is Google-only. But you may get much better participation if participants are encouraged to register here, and enable email. Many advantages.

I also see that you, at least for some of the course, have not used subpages. If related subsidiary pages are subpages, backlinks are obvious (they are automatically at the top of the screen) a resource is a unit, and it can be moved as one, and pages are automatically organized and easily identified. I moved the participant page accordingly,[3] and edited the main resource to use a subpage link, which is shorter and easier to enter. If that's okay with you, I'd be happy to complete this. With that single move, it's easy to undo, but if many pages are moved, not so easy! --Abd (talk) 18:58, 27 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

  • I see that many registered Wikiversity users did sign up, they just were not instructed to leave their user name, they followed your model instead. I could create a participant list from page history. Would you like that? You had a lot of interest, it's a shame to erase that! The IP signups will still be in history, and it would be possible to contact some of these by email, but that's another issue. Wikiversity participant sign-ups should always be with a Wikiversity account. They then can use a watchlist and email notification to truly participate! It will increase the activity.
  • My guess is that others, as well, did not sign up because they didn't have a web site and/or did not want to disclose their real name. Generally, WikiMedia Foundation wikis allow anonymous participation .... it's a basic policy. So this was, again reducing possible participation. If you'd like a separate Estonian Wikiversity, it will be necessary to get higher participation, which is better anyway, and more fun. --Abd (talk) 19:08, 27 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

The reason for periodic changes in these pages are simple - I use Wikiversity for my actual courses at a number of places (Estonian IT College, Tallinn University, Tallinn University of Technology). Each run has its own set of participants who register to the Participants (Osalejad in Estonian - the page you referred to) page to list their names and blogs (see https://beta.wikiversity.org/wiki/Ethics_and_Law_in_New_Media for an English-language course, it will also explain the system). The reason for cleaning up the participant list is thus simple - a run has completed and a new one is about to begin with new people.

I have run courses like this since 2009 and without major hassles. I have allowed editing the Participants page anonymously (without requiring signup), but it is in my watchlist and I've never had any obstructions yet. I think there are very few actual Wikiversity users among the students (i.e. registered Wikiversity users versus course participants), so requiring to register for just one course might be viewed as a nuisance.

Subpages make sense and I'd gladly accept help in this, but I'll be starting the next courses in a week, so we should get the place tidy by then. ː)

  • Great, thanks for the reply. So your participant list is real participants in a brick-and-mortar course. That's often done on en.wikiversity as well. Participants are encouraged to register regular accounts, and there can be participant-drive projects.
  • What occurs to me is a parallel Wikiversity learning project, where independent learners can participate. (Without any obligation on your part, but this sets up something ongoing that does not depend on you personally.) I'm not sure what the value is of having a real-course participant list, but, of course, that's up to you.
  • I will review the page structure in the next few days and will simplify it for you. This is all to support you and your work, and, ultimately, the independence of an Estonian Wikiversity, so, please, if you see a problem, let me know immediately!
  • As I do this, there will be redirects created. One thing that I need to know: if there are incoming links to an old page name from off-wiki, redirects should be maintained. Otherwise, when there is no local "What links here," we tend to delete them. (I'm not a custodian, but I do place speedy deletion templates and action on them is usually swift. ːI don't have links from outside myself (except to the main page of the course - e.g. on the official pages of the host university), but some people might have bookmarked specific topics or pages (just today, a colleague wanted to refer to some text of mine and asked for a proper format). I will take a middle course here. As I'm not a custodian, so when I move pages, redirects are automatically created. If we know that a redirect should be maintained, that should be noted below the redirect on the page itself, and prominently there. (See an example of redirect-with-text I just created.) I won't do that, unless asked, but I will, in the other direction, not request deletion. Custodians sometimes find and delete these anyway, that's all. --Abd (talk) 20:48, 27 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
I have moved the pages and edited IT eetilised, sotsiaalsed ja professionaalsed aspektid#Kursuse info to reflect that. I checked to make sure there were no redirects already, standard when moving pages. I found that IT eetilised, sotsiaalsed ja professionaalsed aspektid: Võrguvestlus existed, but is not linked from IT eetilised, sotsiaalsed ja professionaalsed aspektid. Great. The redirects created by my moves do not have Category:ET on them, so when your Wikiversity is started, they will not be transwiki'd. People would need a new URL then anyway. English pages on betawikiversity

Hi. Why create english page in betawikiversity instead of English Betawikiversity. Betawikiversity is an incubator of no-existing wikiversity. The problem is that my courses run in two languages - the latest addition (born from the corona pandemics and temporary closure of the university) is actually an English-language parallel version of the Estonian course I've been running since 2009. Hosting them in different places would go messy, and the main language of my university is still Estonian.

I understand the situation.This means that these pages will remain on betawikiversity until the other wikiversity is opened. And it shows others that it is possible when it is not the rule. To go from one wikiversity to another, there are interwiki links that allow you to go from one wiki to another, whether between wikiversity or from sister projects to another. How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

Your advanced permissions on betawikiversity

Hello. A policy regarding the removal of "advanced rights" (administrator, bureaucrat, interface administrator, etc.) was adopted by community consensus in 2013. According to this policy, the stewards are reviewing activity on wikis with no inactivity policy.

You meet the inactivity criteria (no edits and no logged actions for 2 years) on this wiki. Since this wiki, to the best of our knowledge, does not have its own rights review process, the global one applies.

If you want to keep your advanced permissions, you should inform the community of the wiki about the fact that the stewards have sent you this information about your inactivity. A community notice about this process has been also posted on the local Village Pump of this wiki. If the community has a discussion about it and then wants you to keep your rights, please contact the stewards at the m:Stewards' noticeboard, and link to the discussion of the local community, where they express their wish to continue to maintain the rights.

If you wish to resign your rights, please request removal of your rights on Meta.

If there is no response at all after one month, stewards will proceed to remove your administrator and/or bureaucrat rights. In ambiguous cases, stewards will evaluate the responses and will refer a decision back to the local community for their comment and review. If you have any questions, please contact the stewards.
